6th Grade Band

Students begin learning to play band instruments in 6th grade at Kearney Public Schools. The 6th Grade Band meets every other day, and performs three concerts during the year. Class periods are varied between full band rehearsal, and small group lessons consisting of homogeneous instruments (i.e. percussion, brass, etc.). Basic instrumental music fundamentals are introduced and developed throughout the year, including: correct instrument assembly and playing position, correct embouchure/stick grip, tone production, technique, sight-reading, and care and maintenance of the instrument.
