GCO NEWS
We would like to invite everyone interested to come to our next GCO meeting on April 14th at 7 p.m. We will discuss the upcoming events, especially field day on May 21st. If you cannot come to the meeting, but would like to help with field day, please contact Brenna Bergstrom. We can use many volunteers for this busy day!

After several years of service, Eileen King, our treasurer, will not have children at Glenwood next year. We are looking for someone to take her place. She has graciously said that she would train anyone interested in the position of treasurer. Please come to the April meeting and we will decide on the treasurer position. Thank you Eileen for all your hard work!

At the next meeting we will also be discussing our budget for next year and planning events for the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year. Please join us!

We had a great January meeting and have many upcoming activities in February. Thanks again for all who attended our meeting, the turn-out was great. We have many items to add to your calendar that the GCO is involved with in February. Welcome back!

We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday break!
We have a GCO meeting on Monday, January 14th at 7 p.m.
We would love to see many parents at our meeting as we will be setting our spring schedule and discussing many upcoming events. We will be discussing the spring book fair, the Glenwood spring dinner, teacher appreciation and hopefully setting some dates!

GCO NEWS

It was great to see all the parents at the last GCO meeting. Thank you to all who came. Book Fair was a great success again. Happy reading to all who purchased books! Our success is due to all the volunteers that worked during the book fair. Please continue to support Glenwood through our fall fundraiser with Schwan's. Check our the delicious food items they have to offer. The fundraiser will run September 25th through October 11th. Don't forget to call your relatives, friends and neighbors and have them order online, it's quick and easy!

Packets include order forms. Extra order forms are available at the office. No need to add tax or shipping charges, Schwan's takes care of ALL of it! Payment needs to be made at the time of the order and checks can be made out to GCO. If the customer wants to use a credit card, direct them to our online shopping using our campaign ID number 1004263. Delivery will be done by Schwan's to the customer's home withing 6 weeks of ordering. The Glenwood kids will get all credit for online orders, just ask the customer to put the child's name on their online order. We hope you enjoy the ease of ordering!

"Morning Meeting"

This is a friendly reminder to encourage you child/ren to attend the "Morning Meeting" each day of school. It is a perfect way to start the day together, gathered in the gym as a Glenwood Family.

Here is what our week looks like:
Mission Monday
the students get a special mission to complete by week's end.
Trivia Tuesday
five trivia questions are asked, ranging from art to science to history.
Book Wednesday
students are encouraged to independently read a book quietly until the meeting begins.
Poetry Thursday
students volunteer to read poetry to the other students.
Joke Friday
students volunteer to tell jokes in front of the students.

Friday is also the day of our "Gladiator Song." Please encourage your child/ren to wear Glenwood clothes on these days.

Safety News at Glenwood

During the month of October, Glenwood will be conducting safety drills. We will have our regular monthly fire drill as well as practicing an evacuation drill. More information will be coming home with your child/ren soon.

The Kearney Fire Department will visit Glenwood on Tuesday, October 9th to teach the students about fire safety.

We like to have visitors in our building but ask that you call ahead if you plan to eat lunch with your child/ren or visit in the classroom. Again, we ask that you sign in at that the office and wear a visitor name badge and sign out when leaving.

Glenwood doors are locked between the hours of 8:15 am and 3:05 pm. Visitors are asked to press the buzzer inside the front door and wait for the door to be unlocked. Thanks for your understanding the importance of this safety procedure.

ITBS TESTING

ON OCTOBER 24TH THRU NOVEMBER 7TH GRADES 3, 4 & 5 WILL BE TAKING THE IOWA TEST OF BASIC SKILLS (ITBS). THESE TESTS PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR CHILD/REN'S CURRENT LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT IN LANGUAGE ARTS, MATH, READING, SCIENCE, AND SOCIAL STUDIES.

GCO Meeting Minutes
Monday November 13, 2006

Introductions and Thank Yous: Introductions were made and Thanks you cards shared.

Minutes were read and approved by Donna Biddle and 2nd by Billie Jo Irving

Treasurer≠s Report: April Becker moved to approve the Treasurer≠s Report of $12,625.27, Billie Jo 2nd. Audit for the 05-06 year was passed out; an error was found and corrected for the December School Board meeting.

Superintendent Report: Wyatt brought up the following issues: 1. The Police Officer for the High School signed a 3yr commitment. Split 50/50 with School /Community. 2. All Kearney Public Schools will go to a single door entry point. 3. Safety street crossing 4. Exercise for students UNK would like parent groups to take over. 5. Extra space and bond issues were mentioned.

Principal≠s Report: American Ed week √ have a speaker coming daily. NE students are collecting school supplies for Iraqi children; Mrs. Stoppkotte will be the school contact.
Rewarding children who do the right thing. Golden Shoe award and the Golden Broom award are in process. The Golden shoe is for quiet shoes in the hall and Golden Broom is for the cleanest classroom. We will be receiving a grant for positive behavior support in the amount of $3,000 to be used in staff development.
Family Directory was brought up to have them issued again this year. Teacher≠s wish list were looked through and tabled until next meeting.

New Business: A new committee to prepare treats for teachers during Parent-Teacher conference separate from Teacher Appreciation. Playground equipment has been looked at and purchased; soon also we will be purchasing a new refrigerator for the staff room. Annette Colling presented Relay for Life. June of 07 is the date, mark your calendar≠s.

Old Business: SAVE SUNMART RECEIPTS: We are very close. We have $147,457.29
and we need $150,000. Bring your store coupons to the office!!! We will receive $1000.00.
Spaghetti Supper √ list of idea≠s and vote for next year. Book Fair earned 1,000.00 in books; we also earned extra money to buy a cash register.

With no other business, meeting adjourned. Next meeting January 8th, 2007 at 7:00pm.
