Mac OS X Software Helper
This page is documentation for software in the district that works with
OS X, but only with tweaks. Eventually, it may also contain more
information about supported and unsupported software. This is
different than documentation within the OS X Migration docs, which is testing on OS X but usually without the benefit of WGM.
Software Requiring Tweaks
- Accelerated Reader (see Accelerated Reader install summary elsewhere on this site)
- Adobe Photoshop Elements (see Adobe KB article 325856)
- HP Scanner and some inkjet printer software requires either the
install be run as every user or the scanner "listener" be run prior to
using the scanner. See the readme of the device drivers in
question for more information.
- PowerGrade requires write permissions to the application folders,
at least if the teachers will have permission to upgrade their own client as PG upgrades come out.
- VR
Worx must be installed as a local user and only run as that singular
username on the network. Officially, you should have a local user
run the program.
- Reading Counts/SRI work very much like Accelerated Reader.
- Other Renaissance Learning products (STAR) will be similar as
well. STAR in particular is a Classic app that requires rwx
access to the data folder. This application is only being used in a trial version at the moment.
- Classic apps in general require some tweaking.
