New School Year Welcome
WELCOME TO OUR CLASSROOM!
Dear Parents,
I am excited and pleased to have the opportunity to
spend this school year with your child. I am sure the year will
fly by quickly! Even though I will only have your child for a
short time, I want to make an educational contribution that has a
positive impact on his or her life.
I am aware that my teaching must begin with making
your child feel at home in our classroom and with helping all the
children come together into a learning community made up of unique
individuals. Each child enters the classroom with his or her own
learning style, interests, history, hopes, and dreams.
Would you help me know your child better by taking a
few moments to write about him/her? What is your child
like? What are the things you, as a parent, know that would be
important for me to know? What are your child's interests?
I want to know how your child thinks and plays...how you see your child
as a learner and individual. Please use the attached page for
your reply.
The following information will hopefully answer some
of your questions about our classroom. If you have additional
questions, I can be reached at my home
(234-9703), or school (698-8230). My e-mail address is: julie@jeverett.org
Friday Folders
This year, your child will be bringing home a Friday
Folder≠. This folder will be sent home each Friday.
It will include a Fridge Slip≠ (see below), your child's school work
for the week, as well as any other special notes for parents.
Please take some time to view this folder with your child over the
weekend and sign your name to the front of the folder. Your child
will need to return the folder each Monday.
Fridge Slip
Included in the Friday Folder will be a weekly
fridge slip for you to keep on your refrigerator. These slips
will notify you and your child of upcoming events, birthdays, special
activities, the shipmate of the week (special week), spelling words,
skills we are developing, as well as who the Teacher's Helper is each
day.
Website
I created this classroom website that allows you to
experience your child's learning activities, as well as our calendar of
events . Please use that as often as possible! The web
address is: http://sites.kearneypublic.org/julieeverett/
Our Classroom Sharing and Caring Rules:
1. I will use good manners.
2. I will treat others how I want to be treated.
3. I will put my eyes on the speaker and listen quietly.
4. I will raise my hand if I want to share a thought or idea.
5. I will respect myself, others and the property at my school.
Planner:
Your child will receive a planner during our first
week together. This planner is used as a home/school connection
between you, as the parent, and me, your child's teacher. I would
greatly appreciate it if you would take the opportunity to visit with
your child about what is written in the planner on a daily basis.
I would also like you to initial that you have seen your child's
planner each day. Your child is responsible for returning his/her
planner to school each day.
Shipmate of the Week
Each week, a child will be chosen to celebrate his
or her special week. A letter will be sent home the week before
it is your child's turn. I will also be sending home a few papers
for you to fill out and return to school that will help us celebrate
your child≠s week. We will hang these up on our "Shipmate of the
Week" bulletin board. Throughout the week, your child may bring a
few items that are special, such as family pictures, stuffed animals,
books by favorite authors, or something he/she has created, etc. to
share with all of us. This is also a wonderful time for anyone in
the family to drop-in for a surprise visit or eat lunch at
school.
Lunch Dates
Family members are always welcome to join us for
lunch. Please call Mrs. Staab in the office (698-8230) or send a
note to school to let us know if you are planning to eat hot
lunch. The cost for an adult meal is $2.45.
Breakfast/Lunch/Milk Costs
The cost for a student breakfast will be .95, while
lunch will be $1.75 this year. If your child brings a cold lunch,
or wants an additional milk with hot lunch, he/she may purchase a milk
for .35.
Teacher's Helper
Each day, one child will be the teacher's
helper. Your child will know when it is his or her turn by
looking on the fridge slip. Please take some time to ask your
child what his/her jobs were for the day.
Book Orders
About once a month, you will receive a book order
form. These book orders offer very reasonable prices for
children's literature. If you would like to order, please send
cash or a check (made out to SCHOLASTIC) in an envelope with your
child's name on the front.
If your purchases are for gifts, please let me know
and I will hold them for you at school until you can pick them up.
Bring and Share
Occasionally, I will ask the children to bring items
from home to share with classmates, depending on what topics we are
discussing in curriculum areas. The fridge slip will serve as a
reminder of which day, as well as indicate the theme/topic. The
goal of this is to develop self-confidence in your child as he or she
shares information with classmates.
Volunteers
Volunteers are strongly encouraged to participate in
our classroom activities. If you have any spare time, we would
greatly appreciate your added assistance in our classroom. If you
are unable to volunteer your time in our room, feel free to volunteer
for things that can be sent home for you to do in your leisure
time. We love any extra help we can get!!!
Holiday Celebrations
We will celebrate three holidays this year:
Fall Festival (October), Christmas, and Valentine's Day. Room
parents will be taking care of arranging the plans, activities and
goodies. If you are interested in participating or helping with
the festivities, please let me know and I will get your name to our
room parent. We can always use extra help on these special days,
so please plan to join us on more than one of these days if you can!
Snacks/Water Bottles
Your child is welcome to bring a healthy snack for
morning and afternoon snack break. Suggested items are:
pieces of fruit, yogurt, cereal bars, dry cereal, animal crackers,
etc. Please do not send chocolate, candy bars, or potato
chips.
Your child may also bring a bottle of water to have at his/her desk.
Respectfully yours,
Julie
