I am so delighted to be your child's First Grade teacher this year. Here is some information you may need to refer to throught out the year.
Friday Folders I will be sending some notes and student papers to you that will be in your child's Friday Envelope. Please look over and discuss your child's work with them. Their work is important too! There will be a space available for parent comments. Initial the envelope and be sure your child is responsible for returning it to school on Monday.
Planners Each child is supplied with a Planner. These are an essential form of communication between home and school. We will write in it about their daily activities. Spelling Words will be written in the planners as well. Please free to use the space available to communicate any comments or concerns you may have about your child or school. I check these daily and will respond to them. The planner must come back to school daily and I would encourage you to make your child responsible for getting it back to their backpack after sharing the information with you.
Library Books
Each child will be able to check out one library book and take it home to read or have read to them. Engourage them to tell you about the pictures as the book is read and have them tell you the sequence of events. Our library has a flexible checkout system, meaning your child may check out as often as they would like. I do ask that your child check out a new book at least once a week. Make sure your child is responsible for keeping the book in a safe place and returning it to school.
Super Student
Your child will be assigned a week to be "Super Student". I try to have this be close to their birthdays, summer birthdays I fill in throughout the year where possible. I will send a note at least one week in advance. This is their time to share. I ask that they bring a few shapshots of family members, if possible, on Monday of their week. They may also bring in Show & Tell each day of that week.
Snacks
We have a special snack time set aside each day following recess. Your child may bring a healthy snack such as raisins, apples, nuts, fruit snacks, poptarts, dry cereal, pretzels, etc. I ask that they do not bring candy or chocolate, and only enough for them to eat on that day.
