Partnerships Community Partnerships Amigos |Centennial Park | UNK MONA| Amigos | Nebraska National Bank Kenwood and Target created a partnership to make our community a better place to live. Target employees have volunteered to accompany students on a neighborhood trash walk. Kenwood students visit Target at Christmas each year to assist senior citizens with shopping. Kenwood was named as one of 1,000 Outstanding Schools in the United States by the Target Corporation. The Kearney Target store received a national award for their contribution to our school through the Target Corporation. Kenwood and Centennial Park created a partnership through the Kearney Park and Recreation Department. The students in grades K-5 visit the park on a regular basis to rake leaves, plant flowers, plant grass, paint buildings and pick up litter. This unique partnership has allowed the Kenwood students to "take ownership" of their neighborhood park. Vandalism has decreased at the park and the students are constantly wanting to beautify the park when they are in the neighborhood. This project has been a model for other schools in our district. Kenwood's partnership with UNK involves university students working in our building with K-5 students through the 390 experience(pre-student teaching program), the Early Training Center (pre-student teaching program), Art Education, Character Education, the "America Reads" reading program and Student Teaching. The UNK Loper Women's Basketball Team is good about visitng Kenwood to talk about making good choices in life. We thank UNK for their involvement with Kenwood. The Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) and Kenwood have teamed up to expose the students to the art gallery and sculpture garden in downtown Kearney. With Kenwood being an "Arts Partner" school, all children in grades K-5 travel to the Museum. We thank the MONA docents for working with our children. Kenwood provides "works of art" for Amigos south in Kearney. Amigos displays the art in the restaurant throughout the year. Amigos sponsors "Kenwood Night" and invites Kenwood families and friends to eat in the restaurant one evening each school year. The staff at Kenwood gets to work serving the food and cleaning tables! A percentage of the proceeds from the evening goes back to our school. Thank you Amigos! Nebraska National Bank has been generous to provide funds for Kenwood students to use for transportation around Kearney. Nebraska National Bank has supported our reading closet and given savings bonds for student winners. We appreciate Nebraska National Bank!
