St Art
Schools Transformed with the ARTS
The goal of this program is to create a network of Nebraska schools dedicated to school improvement through the arts. The ST"ART" program is built on the foundation of the Getty/Anneberg TETAC program and uses a combination of: Professional development for all teachers in arts-based curriculum developement, On going assistance in implementing arts curriculum, and Arts-based school resources such art texts, artists-in-residence and performances/exhibitions in partnership with arts organizations. Schools will connect the program to state educational standards especially 6 Trait writing and to school improvement plan via curriculum and instruction in and through the arts. An arts festival and science fair is held at Kenwood each spring featuring student art/science projects for parents and community members. The school will receive direct grant funds each year for school resources-and choose an arts/cultural organization and or artists to work with them as a program partner. Kenwood's partner is the Museum of Nebraska Art, MONA. At the end of the year, an assessment evaluation component will be done. Once a school finishes its 3 years, it will be designated a Nebraska START SCHOOL and will then mentor a new school and become a demonstration site for schools entering the program. The ST"ART" grant was developed and funded by the Nebraska Arts Council
