This Week in our Classroom
Our theme this week has been "Ocean Animals". We have been reading stories about whales, fish with sparkling scales, and, everyone's favorite, sharks! At the science center, the kids got to examine a shark's jaw and look at the many rows of razor sharp teeth. Yikes! In one of the shark books, we discovered that there are over 400 different types of sharks. Wow! That's a lot of reasons for me to stay out of the water!
We completed our last reading unit today. Our reading theme was 'building'. The stories were about building sand castles, ice sculptures and bridges. At centers this week, the kids did a lot of building with different materials. They used snap cubes, wooden blocks and even train tracks.
Next week is super busy. On Monday afternoon, Mr. Sullivan is having field day with the kids. You may send a water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat with your child. The kids will also need to have shoes and clothing that is appropriate for running. The talent show is Wednesday morning. I am excited to see all of the creative acts. Our picnic will be Thursday, so please send a lunch with your child that day and have him/her dress in layers. We usually go on the picnic, drizzle or shine! I think the thing the kids are most excited about is getting to help me clean the classroom! Do they get this excited when you ask them to clean at home???
