2008-2009 School Year

Dear Parents,
Welcome to the world of Kindergarten.  We are excited and pleased to spend this school year with your child.  We love being  Kindergarten teachers and take our careers in education very seriously.
Each child enters the classroom with his or her own learning style.  We believe it is our job to encourage your child to use their own unique talents and strengths to become a strong, successful learner.  We feel Kindergarten should provide a strong foundation for your child's school years.  By providing a positive, learning environment, your child will be able to explore, discover and take risks while learning with others.
The following information will hopefully answer some of your questions about our classroom.  If you have additional questions you can call us at Kenwood, (698-8200) or at home, Mrs. King (236-6623) Mrs. Liveringhouse (237-7537) or e-mail us at :  rhonda.king@kearneypublic.org
                      sue.liveringhouse@kearneypublic.org

SHARING: Every Friday, your child will be asked to bring one item, that will fit into their backpack, to school that starts with the letters that we are learning that week.  The letters we are learning will be posted on our web page and in the newsletter.  For example, for "A" week, they could bring an awesome apple, or for "B" week, a big. blue, bouncy ball.  Please encourage your child to use complete sentences when sharing.  The goal for sharing is to encourage your child to develop good oral communication skills and self-confidence as he/she shares information with their classmates.

HOMEWORK FOLDERS Beginning the 3rd quarter of school, your child will be bringing home a homework folder every Tuesday.  There will be two activities for them to complete and return to school by Friday.  The goal for homework folders is to teach the students the responsibility for completing and returning important papers to school.

BOOK ORDERS:  About once a month, you will recieve a book order form from Scholastic.  These book orders offer very reasonable prices for children's literature.  If you would like to order, please send cash or a check (made out to Scholastic) in an envelope with your child's name on the front.  If your purchases are for gifts, please let me know and we will hold them for you at school until you can pick them up.

VOLUNTEERS:  Volunteers are strongly encouraged to participate in our classroom activities.  If you have spare time, we would greatly appreciate your added assistance in our classroom.  If you are unable to volunteer your time in our room,  feel free to volunteer for things that can be sent home for you to do in your spare time.  We love any extra help we can get!

Respectfully yours,

Mrs. King
