Meet Your HAL Teacher

Devil-may-care: Red devil pointing with pitchfork to the right
Hello! My name is Mary Alice Konz, and I am the High Ability Learner English teacher at Horizon and Sunrise Middle Schools, as well as the forensics coach at Kearney High School. I am very excited to have you in my class. Together we will learn a lot.

You might want to know a little about me. I have taught school for twenty-five years. My students in both Nebraska and Colorado have ranged from middle school through college-age. My bachelor's and master's degrees are in English education, and special areas of interest include Spanish, speech, theatre, and journalism. I completed my teaching endorsement in gifted education at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

I enjoy being a lifelong learner and will encourage you to develop this philosophy, too. In addition to teaching, I've been a motivational speaker and even a police officer, having earned certification from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in December, 2000. These experiences help me bring a unique perspective to the classroom.

My family includes my husband, Mike, and children: Michelle, Kellie, John, and Maggie. My hobbies are running, reading, motorcycling, and theatre. I look forward to learning all about you and your hobbies, too!

Contact me at:

698-8173 (Sunrise) from 12:00-4 p.m.
