Important events:
6th grade: Biography ceremony on Monday, May 12, at 7 a.m. at Horizon Middle School. Students are to dress up as for a tournament.
7th grade: Field trip to Trails and Rails Museum is on Monday, May 19th. Horizon students attend in the morning, Sunrise in the afternoon. A letter went home with students about this event. Each student should have an appropriate pioneer outfit to wear. Let me know if you have nothing, and I can get some costumes from Mr. Shoemaker. Ask your student for the letter which details much information.
REVISED ACTIVITIES FOR THE WEEK OF May 5, 2008
Sixth Grade
You are to continue working on assembling your biographies at home. Remember, the finished copy is due May 8th, so I can grade each one. We will continue to work on grammar: commas, fragments, and run-ons. We will study these through lecture and discussion, board work with original sentences, worksheets, and homework. Students are also giving book talks on a favorite work of literature.
Seventh Grade
We are transitioning from simple to complex sentences, analyzing the parts: what can stand alone, and what can't. Seventh graders received information about the field trip to Trails and Rails. The permission slip must be returned by Friday, May 16th. Seventh graders are also giving book talks on a favorite work of literature.
Eighth Grade
We have transitioned out of participles and into infinitives. We'll be doing practice exercises and original sentences with these this week. The eighth graders are also giving book talks on a favorite work. Finally, we are continuing our short story unit with some Hemingway and Faulkner selections.
